Jutting 235-feet above the Pacific Ocean, Haystack Rock is a popular spot for spotting sea gulls, sea lions and nesting seabirds. In the spring, gray whales can be spotted migrating past the rock and year-round during low tide, a number of tide pools form around the rock exposing various forms of sea life. The famous rock is located on Cannon Beach, a popular tourist town with plenty of lodging and many restaurants, about 80 miles west from Portland.
